Jackson Hospital Welcomes Richard McConahy as Interim CEO

Marianna, FL, January 7, 2009. On Monday, January 5th, Quorum Health Resources (QHR) placed Richard (Dick) McConahy as interim CEO of Jackson Hospital, while working with the hospital Board to conduct a national search for a permanent CEO. Mr. McConahy will reside in Marianna for the tenure of his term.
Dick McConahy brings to the post over 33 years experience in healthcare with 15 years as Hospital CEO. His most recent engagement was CEO of Elberton Memorial Hospital in Elberton, GA.
Dick holds an MS in Health Care Management from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, and a BS in Nursing from Pennsylvania State University, State College.
His service during the Vietnam War first introduced him to healthcare. Following his tour of duty, he worked on an amputee ward and became interested in Nursing. Early in his healthcare career he served in various roles from Registered Nurse to Associate Director of Nursing.
Mr. McConahy then catapulted to a Hospital Assistant Administrator role that led to successive leadership positions up to and including CEO. The breadth of his leadership experience includes six years as Chief Operating Officer of a 3-hospital health system in Carrollton, GA. He is a seasoned healthcare executive with a background in not-for-profit and for-profit health settings.
Dick McConahy is married to Diane, a Realtor, and has two grown children. His son is an Ultrasound Equipment Sales Executive and his daughter is a Public School Educator.
Dick says, “The people of Marianna and Jackson County are very friendly and I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to meet everyone.” Furthermore, he finds the Jackson Hospital management team strong and very capable.
Mr. McConahy has a certain perspective of the community hospital’s role. He sees Jackson Hospital as a clear benefit to the community’s health and an asset to its economic growth and development. In fact, recent research indicates that common medical and surgical procedures are better delivered at community hospitals rather than at large, urban hospitals where attention is focused on highly specialized medical conditions.
Jackson Hospital’s mission is to provide the highest quality healthcare to those it serves, enhancing life in a compassionate environment. The hospital counts Jackson County and neighboring counties as its service area.
Jackson Hospital, a top 100 Hospital in the nation according to Thomson Healthcare, is the only Florida hospital in its size category to be a two-consecutive year Performance Improvement Leaders award winner. The Hospital provides a wide variety of medical, surgical, and emergency care services from its main location in Marianna at 4250 Hospital Drive.
