Women’s Health Lunch & Learn
50 Area Women educated on Risks of Premature Births, Prolapse
Marianna, FL, May 23, 2011. 50 area women and two men were educated on the Risks of Prematurity, and in a separate presentation, Urinary Prolapse, during Friday’s Lunch and Learn celebrating National Women’s Health Week.
The event was brought to the area by Chipola Healthy Start, the Jackson County Health Department, and Jackson Hospital. Organizers were Kathryn Jordan, Community/Staff Educator, Jackson Hospital; Karen Koonce Edwards, Human Service Program Manager, Social Services Division of the Jackson County Department of Health; Carmen Smith, Community Outreach Liaison, Chipola Healthy Start; and Ricky Leff, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.
All attending the free event enjoyed a plated lunch, the two presentations by Dr. Leff, take-home goodie bag, and lots of door prizes.
Dr. Leff is board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition to obstetrical care, Dr. Leff has a special interest in vaginal prolapse surgery, endometrial ablations, laparoscopy for abdominal surgery, and laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy.
He graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and completed his OB/GYN residency at Memorial Health University Center, Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Leff is in practice with Dr. Vanessa King-Johnson at Women’s Healthcare of the Panhandle, 4298 5th Avenue, Marianna, FL, the location of his primary office. Jackson Hospital has added many new services, such as infusion therapy, reverse shoulder surgery, medical stabilization, and diagnostic ultrasound services including guided needle ultrasound, to name a few. The hospital has added 9 new physicians to its active medical staff in the last two years, particularly specialists in Cardiology, Hematology/Medical Oncology, OB/GYN, Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, General Surgery, and Urology, and Primary Care. The Hospital has OB/GYN outreach clinics in Bonifay, Chipley and Sneads and has opened a Primary Care Clinic in Sneads to better serve Eastern Jackson County and surrounding communities.
