JACKSON HOSPITAL’S LAB SERVICES ARE “A”-RATED
Regulatory Biennial Accreditation Inspection Conducted June 14-16

Marianna, FL, June 20, 2011. Jackson Hospital received an “A”-rating on its recent inspection by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (Joint Commission).

Every two years, the hospital’s clinical lab is evaluated. On Tuesday, June 14th, Joint Commission began an unannounced 3-day survey of Jackson Hospital’s Clinical Laboratory.

Jackson Hospital’s clinical laboratory performs about 800,000 tests per year. Every in-patient and most out-patient services performed by the Hospital require laboratory tests. Unique to a hospital its size, the Hospital performs 95% of laboratory tests in-house rather than sending them to an outside facility which means better quality control and faster turn-around for patients.

The Hospital voluntarily submits to periodic evaluations of its lab for compliance with national hospital and health care standards. Joint Commission accreditation is only awarded to hospitals that can prove compliance with national quality standards. According to Jackson Hospital’s Director of Quality and Risk Management, Ms. Salem Avery, RN, “The hospital and clinic laboratories passed their accreditation inspection with high scores on quality.”

While the main laboratory is located on the 1st Floor of the Hospital building, Jackson Hospital recently opened an express lab in its Outpatient Center located on the ground floor of the Hudnall Medical Building. Patients who have lab orders for routine doctor-ordered tests, such as urinalysis, PSA screens, Lipid Panels, etc., can go to the Outpatient Center, between 7am-5pm, Monday through Friday. The Outpatient Center also provides scheduled appointments for Mammograms and Dexascans. Plenty of parking is available in front of the Hudnall Building for Lab and X-ray customers. The Outpatient Lab can be reached at 718-2668.

Jackson Hospital has added many new services, such as infusion therapy, reverse shoulder surgery, medical stabilization, and diagnostic ultrasound services including guided needle ultrasound, to name a few. The hospital has added 9 new physicians to its active medical staff in the last two years: specialists in Cardiology, Hematology/Medical Oncology, OB/GYN, Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, General Surgery, Urology, and Primary Care. The Hospital has OB/GYN outreach clinics in Bonifay, Chipley and Sneads and has opened a Primary Care Clinic in Sneads to better serve Eastern Jackson County and surrounding communities.
