Governor Charlie Crist Appoints Joe Gay, MD, to Jackson Hospital Board
Marianna, FL, August 17, 2009. On Friday, August 14th, Governor Charlie Crist’s Press Office announced the appointment of Joe Gay, MD, to the Jackson County Hospital District Board of Trustees. Dr. Gay succeeds Board member Dr. Tom Sherrel. Dr. Gay’s four-year board appointment begins August 14, 2009, and concludes June 23, 2013.
Dr. Tom Sherrel most recently served as Chairman of the Board’s Finance Committee. He concludes his service to the Board of Trustees after an 8-year tenure. Board Chairman Gene Strickland says, “On behalf of the Board, we thank Dr. Sherrel for his active participation on the board. His perspective as a Physician and his leadership on the Finance Committee were indispensable to the Board over the last 8 years.”
Citizens who wish to serve on the Jackson County Hospital District Board of Trustees make application for appointment with the Governor of the State of Florida. An application is submitted to the Governor’s Appointment Office for review and then forwarded to the Governor for approval. Dr. Gay joins seated board members Sarah Clemmons, Ph.D., Kathleen Evans, Holt Floyd, Johnny Milton, Kathy Sloan, Jamie Streetman, Chairman Gene Strickland, and Byron Ward.
The Board of Trustees sets the strategic direction of the Hospital and provides operational oversight.
Jackson Hospital was formed by a special act of the legislature of the State of Florida as the Jackson County Hospital District being a public, nonprofit corporation. The only government funding Jackson Hospital currently receives is $12,000 per year from the State of Florida. The Hospital’s ability to operate comes from the community choosing to spend its healthcare dollars in Jackson County at Jackson Hospital.
