BARBARA DURDEN, CNA, JACKSON HOSPITAL’S
QUARTERLY STAR PERFORMER
Called to nursing to love and care for people

Marianna, FL, April 14, 2007. Barbara Durden, CNA, is Jackson Hospital’s Quarterly STAR Performer. Mrs. Durden hails from Chattahoochee, FL, making the drive each day to provide her services to patients and their families at Jackson Hospital. The STAR Performer award is the highest employee award at Jackson Hospital with this quarter naming Mrs. Durden as the standout of all employees nominated by colleagues for the designation.

Mrs. Durden has been a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for 32 years. She has been providing compassionate patient care at Jackson Hospital for five years June 9th. Before joining Jackson Hospital she retired from a 27-year career at Chattahoochee State Hospital. Her motto is “make a positive difference when you come to Jackson Hospital.”

She and her husband have been married for 39 years. Her sister Brenda Burke works at Jackson Hospital and it is she who coaxed Barbara to come out of retirement and work at the hospital to share her natural compassion and positive love for patients.

Mrs. Durden typically works the 11pm-7am night shift with her primary assignment to the 2nd Floor Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit; however, she is often sought by other nursing floors to help. Sue Reeves, RN, Nursing Supervisor, says, “Mrs. Durden is a loyal employee who has a willing attitude; she is loved by all her co-workers.” Paula Nagg, RN, Nursing Supervisor, characterizes Mrs. Durden as “never looking to her own self in what she does, it’s all for the patient.”

Karen Talley, STAR Awards Committee Member says, “Barbara Durden embodies the characteristics of what the STAR Performer is all about.” Mrs. Durden says her attitude is to make a difference in patient’s lives, every day. She said that receiving the STAR Performer Award confirms she has.

The 425 employees of Jackson Hospital congratulate Barbara Durden! Jackson Hospital, a top 100 Hospital in the nation according to Thomson Healthcare, is the only Florida hospital in its size category to receive the 2006 Performance Improvement Leaders award. The Hospital provides in-patient, out-patient, and emergency care services from its main location in Marianna at 4250 Hospital Drive.

Jackson Hospital’s mission is to provide the highest quality healthcare to those it serves, enhancing life in a compassionate environment. The hospital counts Jackson County and neighboring counties as its service area.
