JACKSON HOSPITAL RECEIVES AMERICAN COLLEGE OF RADIOLOGY ACCREDITATION

Marianna, FL, December 3, 2007. Jackson Hospital in Marianna, FL was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Mammography as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field conduct the evaluations. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.

The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic-interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

Jackson Hospital’s Mammography unit of the Radiology Department conducted about 3,500 exams last year. The Department has two radiology technologists – Kaci Culbreth and
Michelle Taylor. Shannon Powell, RPA, RA, BSRT, is the department director. Ms. Powell says, “ACR certification is another quality gold seal, beyond Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), of Jackson Hospital’s capability to this community.”

The Radiology department sees patients for scheduled procedures, such as digital mammograms, Monday-Friday from 7am-5pm. Jackson Hospital’s Radiology Department performs the following procedures: Digital Mammography, Computed Tomography (CT), X-ray, DEXA scans, Nuclear Medicine, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, X-ray/special procedures and fluoroscopy. The department operates 24 hours a day supporting the Emergency Room and in-patient needs with X-rays, CT, US, and Nuclear Medicine procedures. The department employs 20 licensed technologists who performed approximately 42,000 procedures in 2006.

Jackson Hospital’s mission is to provide the highest quality healthcare to those it serves, enhancing life in a compassionate environment. The hospital counts Jackson County and neighboring counties as its service area.

Jackson Hospital, a top 100 Hospital in the nation according to Thomson Healthcare, is the only Florida hospital in its size category to receive the 2006 Performance Improvement Leaders award. The Hospital provides in-patient, out-patient, and emergency care services from its main location in Marianna at 4250 Hospital Drive.
