Jackson Hospital Receives 99% Mark in Quality
Standards set by CMS and Joint Commission for Patient Care
October 4, 2011, Marianna, FL. Jackson Hospital is committed to becoming the best community healthcare system in the nation. One significant measure of the Hospital’s progress is its success at achieving a 99% composite quality score for Quarter 2 (April-June), 2011, in standards set by the Centers for Medicaid/Medicare (CMS) and Joint Commission. Jackson Hospital has been steadily raising the bar on quality over the past 5 years by implementing innovative efforts throughout the organization. This most recent score and highest to-date is evidence of the hospital’s commitment to quality patient care. Jackson Hospital is performing above the state and national level in quality for all hospitals.
Hospital CEO Larry Meese says “Quality, service, and growth remain the pillars of our success and I’m proud of all the hardworking, caring staff of the Hospital who sees to it every day that we provide high-quality care to our patients.”
Like most hospitals, Jackson Hospital accepts federal Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement funds and must provide patient care at levels set forth by the CMS. The Joint Commission is an independent accrediting body that Jackson Hospital uses to satisfy state and federal performance requirements. Long before it was actually required, Jackson Hospital chose to participate in these quality studies in its effort to improve patient care.
Salem Avery, RN, Director of Quality & Risk Management, points out that one of the reasons for consistent improvement in scores is the development of focused teams made up of staff members from across clinical and administrative departments to strategize on how to best achieve high quality using standard of care measures. Healthcare services are now measured in many ways, including evidence-based practices, timeliness and efficiency measures. These efforts are intended to benefit patients by providing appropriate, safe, efficient, and cost-effective care.
The four key areas of quality measurement set forth by CMS and Joint Commission are: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical site infection prevention.
Ms. Avery says, “Patients can expect Jackson Hospital to follow and excel in all national standards for clinical treatments and safety measures.” She continues, “Our success is due to teamwork and commitment to the health and safety or our patients.”
Jackson Hospital’s mission is to provide exceptional healthcare to every patient, every day. The hospital is growing with its $7.5 million renovation and ER Expansion construction project, the development of its Outpatient Center, partnership with Chipola Fitness Center, and by bringing new physicians to the community. The Hospital now has 32 physicians on its Active Staff, and offers new specialties such as Cardiology, Hematology/Medical Oncology, OB/GYN, Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, General Surgery, and Urology.
