Jackson Hospital Hosts Free Banquet to Promote Diabetes Education
Marianna, FL, November 28, 2011. Jackson Hospital invites you to attend the annual “Taste of the Seasons” Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 5-7pm, in the Hudnall Medical Building on the Hospital’s campus, 4230 Hospital Drive, Marianna. This community education event features keynote speakers and a nourishing holiday dinner.
Diabetes is one of the most significant health conditions affecting Jackson and surrounding county residents. It is the 7th leading cause of death.
According to the American Diabetes Association and Centers for Disease Control, nearly 26 million Americans have diabetes which is 8.3% of the US population. At least 79 million Americans have pre-diabetes and it is estimated that 1 in 3 adults could have diabetes by 2050. Just last year in 2010, 1.9 million Americans were newly diagnosed as having diabetes.
Jackson Hospital hosts its annual Taste of the Seasons to show how diabetics can stay on their diet plan while enjoying traditional holiday meals. The program accompanying the dinner features these three topics:
· Lifesaving Drugs for all Diabetics, presented by Julie Smith, ARNP, DNP, Internal Medicine Associates, Marianna.
· Diabetes & Nutrition, presented by Mathew Dallefeld, RD, Morrison’s Food Service.
· Exercise for the Diabetic, presented by Nick Kolmetz, PT, Jackson Hospital Therapy, Marianna.
All participants will be served a diabetic-friendly (60 gm carbohydrate), holiday-style meal prepared by Jackson Hospital’s Food and Nutrition Staff. There is no cost to attend; however, seating is limited so make your “dinner” reservation in advance by leaving your RSVP on the Jackson Hospital Registration line @ 850-718-2884. Dress is casual/work attire. All attending are eligible to win door prize giveaways.
