The Great American Smokeout® is Thursday, November 17th
Local Smoking Cessation Program Available
November 11, 2011, Marianna, FL. The American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Great American Smokeout® is Thursday, November 17th. This is the 36th annual Smokeout® aimed at encouraging smokers to make a plan to quit, or quit smoking that day. By not smoking the day of the Great American Smokeout®, “smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk,” according the Society’s website.
Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US, yet more than 46 million Americans still smoke. However, more than half of these smokers have attempted to quit for at least one day in the past year.
Quitting is hard, but you can increase your chances of success with help. Jackson Hospital offers a free tobacco-cessation program with the next series beginning Monday, November 14th, 5pm, Board Room, on the Ground Floor of the hospital. Jackson Hospital is located at 4250 Hospital Drive, Marianna, FL. The curriculum used for the program was developed by ex-smokers for those who want to become ex-smokers themselves.
Jackson Hospital became a smoke-free campus Friday, April 1. The hospital, a Tobacco-Free Florida grant recipient, has been using its funding over the last several years to prepare the community and its staff for a successful conversion to a tobacco-free campus. Please join the hospital by becoming smoke-free. You can take the first step by calling Florida’s Quitline: 1-877-U-CAN-NOW.
Jackson Hospital’s mission is to provide exceptional healthcare to every patient, every day. The hospital is growing with its $7.5 million renovation and ER Expansion construction project, the development of its Outpatient Center, partnership with Chipola Fitness Center, adding new Breast Care services and by bringing new physicians to the community. The Hospital now has 32 physicians on its Active Staff, and offers new specialties such as Cardiology, Hematology/Medical Oncology, OB/GYN, Orthopedics/Sports Medicine, General Surgery, and Urology. # # # For more information, please contact Rosie Smith, Public Relations and Marketing Director, at 850-718-2696 or email rsmith@jackhosp.org |
