Jackson Hospital Announces High-Tech Lithotripsy Service
Treating Kidney Stone disease with scientific advancement and redefining technology
December 12, 2011, Marianna, FL. Full-time lithotripsy service is now available at Jackson Hospital, Marianna, enabling area residents who suffer from kidney stones to receive non-invasive treatment closer to home.
Jackson Hospital chose a new lithotripter (stone machine) called “Medispec E-3000”. This is the same machine used in top hospitals and stone Centers in the world. Larry Meese, CEO of Jackson Hospital says, “The Medispec E3000 is top-of-the-line technology providing our patients with higher quality of care.”
Through scientific advancement and modern technology, new standards have emerged for the treatment of stone disease. This equipment allows for excellent stone clearance and requires minimal anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. It can be performed in less than thirty minutes, requires no incisions and allows the patient to return to normal activities quickly. Most stones can be treated using this technology.
Dr. John T. Chacko, staff urologist at Jackson Hospital, explains “The pain and morbidity of kidney stones can be very significant.” He adds, “Lithotripsy is a non-invasive treatment modality and provides prompt relief for many patients. No incision is needed.”
The equipment works by generating shock waves. X-rays aid in the visualizations of the stone and focus the shock waves on the calculus (kidney stone). The procedure is non invasive and lasts less than 30 minutes. After the procedure is completed, the patient stays in the recovery room for thirty to sixty minutes before discharge to home. This new equipment has a greater than 90% stone-free rate which, without a doubt, is one of the best in the industry.
Dr. John T. Chacko MD is board certified in Urology and is active medical staff at Jackson Hospital. Dr. Chacko treats male and female patients for conditions related to the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urinary tract.
