COMMUNITY REMEMBERED AND HONORED LOVED ONES
DURING JACKSON HOSPITAL FOUNDATION’S LIGHTS OF LOVE
Marianna, FL, December 27, 2007. -- The 17th Annual Lights of Love Lighting ceremony brought out over 100 community members to remember and honor their loved ones at Christmas time on Thursday, December 6th. The front-lawn event held at Jackson Hospital is one of several special events the Jackson Hospital Foundation sponsors annually according to Jackson Hospital Foundation Executive Director Jill Miller. Foundation President, Debbie Mathews, RN, CNOR, who was Master of Ceremony said, “The Lights of Love observance is the most special event of the year; you could feel the love for those remembered and honored.”
The Golson Elementary School 2nd Grade Chorus heralded arriving participants with songs of the season. Golson Elementary School and Jackson Hospital are partners in Education Excellence.
Senior Pastor LaVon Pettis of Evangel Worship Center opened the event with the invocation before Jackson Hospital CEO Dave Hample and Ms. Miller remembered read the names of each person honored or remembered before the tree was officially lighted for the season.
Lights of Love is one of several fundraisers for the Jackson Hospital Foundation with all proceeds going towards the purchase of medical equipment for Jackson Hospital which advances the scope of care available here in the Jackson County community. Ms. Matthews and Ms. Miller presented a check for $5,630.00 to Mr. Gene Strickland, Chairman, Jackson Hospital Board of Trustees. Ms. Matthews and Ms. Miller thank the community for its generosity during the holiday season.
Capping off the event was Santa’s arrival. He arrived in style on Marianna Fire Engine #142 as the Jackson Hospital Auxiliary (better known as the “Pink Ladies”) served cookies and punch.
Other annual Foundation events are the Spring Gala and the James T. Cook, Jr., Golf Tournament. The Foundation also sponsors a Holiday Wine Tasting in conjunction with the Marianna Rotary Club. Please contact Jill Miller, Amy Milton or Georganne Sherrel at 718-2601 for more information on how you can volunteer, participate or contribute to Foundation events.
